The Problem

The client currently is pursuing a career in modeling. With a number of projects under her belt she already has people interested in her work. However, the client currently wants to increase their professionalism by creating a online modeling portfolio that would be able to capture the attention of potential collaborators to work with. She wants a clean yet interesting design that will not overwhelm the users.

My Role

During this project it was my role to schedule meetings with the client and weekly discuss the current direction of the website. From there I then had to collect the feedback discussed and make my adjustments. My main roles consisted of wireframing, designing, and creating the site.

Goal

Create a Design that captures a potential clientele attention. The design must follow the requirements necessary for an online modeling profile, allowing the client to have an official portfolio. Ultimately the goal is designing/creating a site that showcases her work as well as gets the client booked for events.

Solution

Mock up some different designs and present these designs to the client to figure out a starting point. From there then create the design and make iterations as necessary.

Planning

Weekly Meetings

The first step to this project was developing a schedule for the client and I to discuss the requirements and desires they had with regards to the site’s functionality and look. After the initial meeting we constructed weekly meetings where the client would provide feedback on the current design of the project as well as infer about possible additional features. This process continued for 3-4 Weeks, until the member was comfortable with the final product.

Topic Analysis

Coming into this project, this was my first time hearing about Modeling Portfolios, inherently that meant there were certain ways pictures must be presented and certain details that must be included. Due to my lack of knowledge it was a natural next step to do research on other modeling portfolios and find out what a proper one looks and feels like. After investigating the topic for a few days (as well as exploring more information as I developed the site), I then came up with a plan to create this site.

Sketching

Wireframing

With the weekly meetings in place and the knowledge on what needs to be showcased on an online modeling portfolio, I now began to sketch a number of wireframes to present to my client. Here I was trying to gauge what type of layout did the member prefer, looking at the common layouts for this profession in combination with their personal taste.

Site Mapping

Once the layouts were chosen the next step was creating a sitemap to illustrate the pages the site would have.

Designing

Hi-Fi Design

With the weekly meetings in place and the knowledge on what needs to be showcased on an online modeling portfolio, I now began to sketch a number of wireframes to present to my client. Here I was trying to gauge what type of layout did the member prefer, looking at the common layouts for this profession in combination with their personal taste.

Outcome

After a few weeks of meeting with the client and discussing possible updates or adjustments to the site, I completed the site accomplishing the goal the client had for the product. The client also began to gain their own clientele when presenting them with her online portfolio.

Learned

- I gained more experience speaking directly to a client and afterwards making iterations to the site that were discussed. This helped me process and implement feedback more effectively.

- I worked on Site Mapping, although this was a simpler model to construct. This helped me get some experience with Site Maps and understanding how they operate.
